Nightfire Source Pjump

Post by Kenny.tw » 5 years ago

So for one more time, I will do my best to explain pjump. I actually wanted to post this earlier.

In the first clip I show:
sv_pjumplimit 0
Which means there are no limits which Dylan made. So you can say this are the original Nightfire settings. Yet (and hopefully you all can see it in the vid) it doesn't feel like the Nightfire pjump. It goes way to fast and it is way to easy. And that is the reason why Dylan made a limit on pjump, not for the reason that pjump might be to OP, but for a good look-like Nightfire feeling.

2nd clip I show are, for now, the normal Nightfire Source pjump settings:
sv_pjumplimit 1
sv_pjumpminrequiredspeed 1.8
sv_pjumpmaxspeed 2.1
I guess the commands are easy to understand. Minrequiredspeed is based on the speed before you can pjump. And maxspeed is the maxspeed you can make with pjump (not like the sv_pjumplimit 0 where you go really fast and bounce against every wall)
In the vid I show it is kinda hard to pjump with these settings, yet it is not impossible. I hate the sort of pushback-feeling which you get from the pjumpmaxspeed.

And finally the 3rd clip I show:
sv_pjumplimit 1
sv_pjumpminrequiredspeed 1.6
sv_pjumpmaxspeed 5
I enjoyed these settings the most. (sv_pjumpminrequiredspeed 1.65 / 1.7 might be better, you still see how fast I start with pjump in something like the 2nd / 3rd jump I'm already pjump) With sv_pjumpmaxspeed 5 you don't feel like the pushback-feeling I had with sv_pjumpmaxspeed 2.1

I guess whenever the release will be, the Nightfire players will know which settings fit the most with the Nightfire feeling. But for sure, the limit is NOT a bad thing. And YES you can adjust the pjump settings.

Kenny.

the 3rd clip looks the best. 2nd one it looks like u can barely pjump ;s make the 1st or 3rd the default settings, not 2nd

#3 is wayyy too high of a max speed. try this on an indoor map like dm_power and youll see what i mean. #2 just needs the min required speed to be lowered and the max speed just slightly higher.

also, i can adjust the limits so that its not a 'pushback' feeling

Ugh, I always hated this shit. I've always regarded it as a cheat, although technically it's an "exploit". And before you throw out the usual "Oh, you're just mad because you can do it" garbage, I can do it, and very well too. It just completely ruined the original Nightfire. Rather than fighting for flags people just grabbed them and jumped away like a little cunt.

That said, I welcome these settings. The reason sometimes it feels "too fast" is because Nightfire imposed a universal maximum velocity limit of 2,000 units/second on every point entity in the game, including players, whereas Source engine either removed this limit or increased it substantially. To see what I mean, fire up Nightfire and set "sv_maxvelocity" to something arbitrarily high (2000000000 will do). Without that velocity limit, you can pjump so fast as to practically warp across a map. I even made a custom map that was 32,000 coordinates long and pjumped across it almost instantly.

Like I said, the best setting will differ by probably any player. I also guess that the servers will use different settings, which is not a bad thing. So respect each other ideas about pjump, because you can't argue about pjump if it is good or bad.

In my opinion 1st option is too generous to a PJumper, 3rd option is bit generous too. 2nd option is TOO BAD.

Maybe the following is good I don't know :

sv_pjumplimit 1
sv_pjumpminrequiredspeed 1.7
sv_pjumpmaxspeed 3 - 4

I don't know about other opinions I respect all but It will be a great fail if you removed PJ completely or added it like 1.0 Nightfire, Just balance :)

I have played numerous scrims and I can say it is impossible to attack without pjump, if enemy has good players. Normal scrim (to 10 flags) would take hours without pjump. Playing against Birdy, Mixery, OldJosti(Bernard) etc. means instant headshot without pjump when attacking, because defender has advantage. For example in casino it is insane to play without pjump, as the defender can just wait and listen and shoot you when you come visible behind the wall. With pjump you can sometimes surprise the defender. Also in romania (the most popular nf map ever) it is way too hard to take a flag without pjump, because the flag is in a "hole". As a defender you can just spray attacker dead. When there is pjump, attacker has even a small chance (defender still kills him 9 times out of 10). 3rd settings are best, because I dont like 10000000m pjump. There must be a limit but not too strict. Pjump must not be made much harder, because then noobs can't learn it. Just limit the maxspeed.
