Spectator mode

Post by spxter » 4 years ago

I think a spectator mode would be awesome to the game. Spectating a game (match), with a delay of 90 seconds (like Half Life TV), would be nice.

I've read people asking about the C4/ Bomb defusal mode (including myself) and that's where spectating can come in handy as well. When your dead, your dead for the whole round and you can spectate your teammates (without that 90 sec. delay ofcourse).

Good idea. I always enjoy spectating games in Call of Duty.

Since this is standard on Source (as far as I know), I think this will be intregrated.

But with what rules? Can players see what spectators say? Can dead players team-chat to living players?

In the future spectator mode should be implemented, would be amazing step forward. Peace 007-UK :ugeek:

Like already said spectator mode is already implemented in NFS. But indeed without any rules so spectators can talk directly to players and there is no delay like HLTV / GOTV.
Spectator mode is for multiple reasons a big feature in multiplayer games, it most likely will be elaborated in NF:S.

You have different types of spectator modes I guess.

In-game spectating:
  • No delay
  • Being able to chat with your teammates
  • Spectate modes: First person in competitive matches and freemode, third person and first person in regular (public) game modes
Similar to HLTV (Spectate a match)
  • 90 or 120 seconds delay
  • Seperated chats for players and spectator
  • Spectate modes: Freemode, third person and first person
- You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.

I said that it could either be made such that dead players can talk to each-other (either all dead players or dead players with their own dead teammates, perhaps a console command such that this can be chosen by the host?) or they can talk to their living teammates. Then there's the question of whether dead players get free camera view of the map (so they should NOT be able to talk to their living teammates) or whether they can spectate their team only (where being able to chat with their living teammates would probably be OK).

There are so many possibilities here that choosing any one in particular would be hard.

(Also, why give a 2min delay when spectating on HLTV? Surely storing 2min of game data is pointless?)
